Nurse call systems are similar to duress buttons, but the signal is received at the nurse call station, where it is dispatched. The nurse call system is not always used for an emergency, and is different to the duress button in that it can be a call for anything from changing the elevation of a patient´s bed to needing
pain medication or any other kind of assistance. These call buttons are usually installed by the bed and in the bathroom. The systems can be networked, wireless or hardwire, and they can also be used to alert the nurses locally or all over the healthcare site.
