Airport and seaport surveillance serves mainly as a deterrent. It is a proactive solution to alert security and authorities of suspicious characters. If visible CCTV cameras, for example, do not deter the crime, then the recorded video from the camera may be enough to make a positive identification or accurate description
to law enforcement officers. On the other hand, when law enforcement makes an arrest the video usually holds up in court as evidence (if it is digitally watermarked/encrypted/has a clear enough picture).
IFSS makes sure the customer understands the surveillance process, and covers all the bases, depending on the circumstances. CCTV cameras can be analog, digital, IP networkable and high resolution. There are endless possibilities as to length of recordings, area coverage and more. Other than in the main airport security areas, point of sale systems – cash registers – can
be monitored to make sure money count is accurate. FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation) uses these cameras for LPR (license plate recognition) and to watch for stolen vehicles. There are technology actions such as “bag left unattended,” “virtual trip lines,” or “person tracking” that can be done virtually with reliability, to enhance security
in airport and seaport surveillance systems.
